“Bee-oh-bee” Nails

The Story

I have always been an artistic person. I loved to draw, paint, and create ever since I was young. This fact was never new to me.

I painted my nails quite often, but I never thought that nail art was a “hobby”, or that it could one day be my full time passion, but then in 2014, things started to change.

My cousin had come to study in America from Taiwan for 3 months. Being an avid nail art enthusiast and customer, she eventually needed a new set. I took her to a nearby nail salon at the mall and we got our nails done together. The mani-pedis we got were so disappointing that I decided to do my own gel manicures. I got on eBay and bought my first UV lamp, gel polishes, and basic tools.

In 2018, I started posting my nail art onto Facebook and Instagram. One of my high school friends complimented my work and suggested that I start charging for services. I started doing nails for my friends and family and I fell in love with the work.

I started my official nail education right away and in 2019, I got my California Board Manicurist License.

Why “Beobee”?

“Beobee” is pronounced like you are spelling out “Bob” - “bee-oh-bee”.

My name was hard to spell and understand in some situations, so instead of introducing myself as “Charlene”, I would say that my name was “Bob”. This was easy for people to remember and it became my nickname.

When it came time to name my nail company, I wanted to pick something that reflected me. The word “Beobee” by itself has no meaning, but the story behind it means a lot to me.

Faith journey - dealing with chronic pain

My story was published in a teaching series magazine from Mariners Church that follows alongside the pastoral teachings of the book of James from the Bible.
